News & Events:
Indonesia's 1st Microfinance Conference was held in May at the Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel. As part of the Wahana Kria Putri Foundation, Bali Artisans was invited to attend the conference as a stall holder. Some of our producers also attended the event and it was a good opportunity for them to meet visitors and share their story. The two day event included workshops, discussions and presentations from various microfinance institutions around Indonesia and participants arrive from all over the country.
Bali Artisans held their first handicraft expo for fairer trade at the Kalimantan Cafe in Sanur for three days. We were blessed with blue skies and sunny weather throughout the weekend. At the opening party on the first night, guestspeakers from Mitra Bali presented the audience with important information about the principles of Fair Trade and why it is important to support the movement. The party ended with visitors rocking to the sounds of live music. The next day past slowly but visitor numbers were at an all time high on Sunday, bringing the expo to a positive close in the evening. The producers, many of whom have never had any experience in trading with foreign customers before, earned a total of over 11 million rupiahs in sales- a modest success! Bali Artisans would like to thank all of their sponsors and partners who generously donated their time and money to the event. Thank you YAKKUM Bali for being there with us, to Kalimantan Bar & Restaurant for letting us use their place, to Spirit Cafe for their amazing generosity in helping us, to Mitra Bali for being our guest, to 6 Point Cafe for their donation of dining vouchers, to Cafe Batujimbar for their donation of dining vouchers, to Bali Advertiser for advertising our event for free, to The Bali Times for advertising our event for free, to Lisa Cross from Segara Village for her donation of gift vouchers, to Alpha Omega Computers for their donation of prizes, to Pak Peter and Ibu Leah for their generous donations and finally to everyone who came to the event. We are pleased to announce that our much anticipated handicraft expo will be held at the Kalimantan Bar & Restaurant, in jalan Pantai Sindhu at Sanur beach, from the 18th to the 20th of April, 2008. Mr. Bob Kendall from Kalimantan has generously donated his restaurant space for the expo for three days. We would like to invite you to attend our handicraft expo. You will have the opportunity to meet our producers and purchase their products, as well as seeing live music performances, traditional Balinese dances, craft demonstrations and more.
We were invited to setup a stall at the Climate Parade event on the 8th of December in Renon Square. The highlight of event was a peaceful march around the square by a number of non-profit and environmental organisations, such as Greenpeace and Mitra Bali, to raise an awareness of climate change and to protest against environmental abuse. Our job was to promote Bali Artisans and its position in supporting Fair Trade for the impoverished craftspeople of Bali. We would like to thank Yakkum and Mitra Bali for extending their invitation to Bali Artisans to participate in the event.
