Ibu Meity (WKP Community Development Manager) asked to some group of women in her church to form a group activity to produce Barefoot Jandal, actually a look – like sandal, but only the upper part of sandal. This group was formed on June 17, 2008. The group itself has 5 members, and named Dorkas. The member should have a willingness to learn, and this group is open for all of the women who would like to join in the community.
The name Dorkas itself, was from the story in the bible. It said that the person who was awakened by Peter worn the clothes that made by Dorkas. Amazingly, many people like the clothes, and suddenly Dorkas become a famous
Taylor. This group is hoping to have a similar story later on to be well known of the products that they make. This group is also having a vision and mission. Its mission is to keep learning, guiding, empowering, spending time together, and gaining more income for the families.
This group has routine meeting twice a week, which are on Wednesday and Saturday. All of the members in this group have strong willingness, as a result all of them never missed the meeting. So far, this group has recevived training in business management, and also product improvements, such as design and product packaging. Moreover, this group received sewing machine, given by our partners ArtVenture Singapore. They already produces some of sewing products, and currently in the process of improving the quality of their products. This group had also received order in making Jandal - as what is described above - for two times from New Zealand.
